Alberto Popolla, clarinettist of Roots Magic, this time builds and elaborates in perfect solitude his world of tradition and avant-garde, Delta and New Orleans, blue notes and experimentation, silences, abrasions and soft tones; an organic and coherent universe that rewrites and reinterprets African-American history and its musical expression par excellence, the Blues.
The ebony of the clarinet, the tapping of the foot and a ‘pedalboard’ of objects tell of a still vital and richly evocative music with intimate spiritual significance, sketching a passionate narrative through a pivotal instrument in the history of jazz and blues.
